Journalism changed forever when we all got devices in our pockets that can take pictures and record audio and video content, needing only a few gestures to share it with millions of people. The so-called ‘User-Generated Content’ is potentially crucial to any journalist’s work, but it can also be a mortal trap for truth diggers. After a general overview on journalism in the ‘post-truth’ era, and an analysis of the most significant case histories of the last years, the workshop will present practical tools for digital journalists. Inspired by Craig Silverman’s ‘Verification Handbook’, it will provide participants with a basic understanding of how to autonomously fact check user-generated content.
